How much do kitchen cabinets cost?
A useful budget starts with a measured scope, not a universal kitchen average. Separate the cabinet purchase from labor, surfaces and other trades, then compare dated prices for the same work.

Why there is no universal cabinet price here
The earlier headline and per-linear-foot figures did not identify a consistent date, region, cabinet schedule, installation scope or supporting source. They have been withdrawn rather than relabeled as current estimates. Existing saved pricing rules also lack documented sources and are not used by this planner.
The references below explain products and process. This Old House’s cabinet buying guide explicitly attributes its price data to 2024 reports; its buying and refacing pages also give different stock-cabinet figures without a common installed scope. They are not sufficient to validate a current Atlanta project budget. National guides are not local bids.
Compare a measured bill of materials, itemized installation scope and exclusions. The planner below can calculate a transparent selected-scope range from your own dated supplier or installer estimates, without guessed rates or style multipliers.

Cabinet materials only
Ask for the actual cabinet schedule: quantities, box construction, door and drawer-front materials, finish, hinges and slides. A cabinet-only price may omit finished ends, fillers, toe kicks, decorative panels, hardware, assembly, freight and tax. A room’s floor area is not a cabinet quantity.
Cabinet supply and installation
Keep the product subtotal separate from installation labor. Confirm receiving and inspection, assembly, wall preparation, leveling, secure fastening, scribing, trim and final door adjustment. Do not add an installation allowance to a supplier price that already includes that work.
Cabinet replacement versus refacing
Replacement removes the boxes and permits a new layout. Refacing retains suitable boxes and generally replaces doors and drawer fronts and covers exposed surfaces. Refinishing changes the existing finish instead. Have someone inspect for moisture damage, poor anchoring and sagging shelves before comparing like-for-like scopes.
Stock, semi-custom, and custom cabinetry
These describe ordering flexibility, not guaranteed quality. Stock uses a defined size and finish catalog; semi-custom allows selected modifications; custom is made to an agreed specification. Compare box materials, joinery, hardware, finish samples and warranty within each category rather than assuming a universal quality or price ranking.
Countertop and backsplash upgrades
Obtain measured surface areas and separate product and labor prices. Countertop edges, seams, sink cutouts, supports, templating and reconnection can change scope. Backsplash demolition, substrate repair, outlets, grout and sealing may be separate. Keeping existing counters is not automatically feasible when replacing cabinet boxes.
Removal and disposal of old cabinets
Specify demolition versus careful removal for reuse, protection of adjacent finishes, hauling, disposal fees and who owns salvaged materials. Hidden water damage and hazardous-material handling are not ordinary debris removal. For painted surfaces in older homes, check applicable lead-safe requirements before disturbing them.
Kitchen sizes and complexity
“Small,” “medium,” and “large” are planning labels, not measured cabinet packages. Islands, tall pantry units, drawers, corners, uneven walls, ceiling-height trim and difficult access can outweigh floor area. Linear-foot conventions differ: confirm whether a supplier counts base and wall cabinets together or separately before multiplying a rate.
Optional plumbing, electrical, and flooring work
Cabinet installation does not automatically include moving a sink, adding circuits, reconnecting appliances, repairing floors or obtaining permits. Identify each trade, its permit and inspection responsibilities, scheduling dependencies and written exclusions. Follow flooring manufacturer requirements for cabinets and floating floors.
Interactive cabinet budget planner
Build a scope without entering contact details. You can use the checklist without prices; a numeric range appears only after you provide documented rates, a source and a date. This planner does not use our legacy unsourced pricing rules.
We have not adopted verified local price rates. Add dated supplier or installer estimates for this exact configuration to calculate a range. Do not reuse a supply-and-install rate as a supply-only rate. No figures are filled in for you.
Changing scope choices clears prices so an old material or service estimate is not silently reused. Changing footage recalculates using the same documented rate.
No supported range yet
To calculate: select the ordering category and installation scope, enter 1–500 measured cabinet linear feet, provide a low and high price for every included item (zero only when explicitly included at no extra charge), a source description of at least 10 characters and a non-future price-check date. Each high price must be at least its low price. No size-based measurements or missing prices are guessed.
Assumptions: cabinet supply and any installation labor use your supplier’s same linear-foot convention. Selected optional services use whole-service totals. Door style, material, box construction and size do not apply invented multipliers; the entered rates must already cover those choices.
Excluded: unselected services, sales tax, delivery, permit fees, design fees, appliances, hazardous-material handling and unforeseen repairs. Use entered prices that exclude these items to keep the subtotal comparable. No contingency or regional adjustment is added.
This is not a binding quote. A professional must verify measurements, scope, site conditions, availability and final pricing.
Your current choices: Not sure kitchen; Not sure; Not sure; Not sure; box Not sure; fronts Not sure; Not sure. Entries stay on this page and are not submitted as a lead.
